A different approach to motorcycle design

ABC Flat Twin Concept

ABC Motorcycles are planning to build a new two stroke flat twin based on the original ABC 400 model.

The new bike codenamed ABC 521 will use an existing two stroke flat twin engine which will be modified to suit the bike.

The new model will be closely based on the DNA of the original bike. It even has the same wheelbase and wheel diameter. Where it differs is in the tubular stainless steel frame and swing arm. The frame is kept narrow at the front, running down and back, eliminating the wide floorboards of the original in favour of foot pegs. It uses a similar girder fork design but replaces the original front and rear leaf spring suspension with modern telescopic shock absorbers

The fuel tank is reminiscent of the original and holds both fuel and oil. It is also fabricated from stainless steel and comes with a polished finish with painted sides.

The 521cc flat twin engine is air cooled and is similar in width to the original bike overall. It runs fuel injection and is rated at around 50hp, a significant increase on the original. The engine drives a chain final drive running through a six speed foot operated manual gearbox.

Period features abound, like the stainless rear luggage rack, the reverse levers sprung saddle, drum brakes and spoked wheels running modern Avon Roadrider mk2 21-90-90 tyres, which are virtually the same overall diameter as the originals.

A choice of colours are available for the tank sides

The bike is a celebration of the original model. Its not a sports bike by any stretch but is solely intended as a machine that puts the rider in touch with the joys of early motorcycling where the pleasure was in the ride, not how fast you were going!

Final details are yet to be determined but the visuals shown give a clear indication as to the finished bikes looks.

Watch out for further news on this exciting motorcycle. We hope to have a running prototype by the end of the year!!
